• Proven track record of effective leadership of major projects, including cross functional leadership Attributes/experience: • Graduate with ~10+ years of experience preferably across disciplines (government affairs, issues management, policy development), with proven experience of leading development, implementation and measurement of effective Government Affairs strategies and programmes to support business objectives. • Experience of driving development of public policy. • Excellent knowledge of the workings of the political and policy environment, and public health policy. • Good commercial acumen, ideally gained from working within a sales and marketing organisation. • Experience of working within the pharmaceutical industry, the health or a related sector. At a minimum, experience of working within a highly-regulated sector with the ability to grasp complex technical information. • Ability to simplify and communicate complex, scientific issues to a range of audiences.
The role holder must be able to operate in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to address and manage issues which may arise suddenly, and which may have significant impact commercially and on the reputation of the company. Skilled judgment on the positioning and tone of sensitive and complex issues is essential. • Managing the external environment – with the rapidly evolving external environment it is critical that the role holder understands and keeps track of changes in the external environment. The role holder must advise and support the businesses in responding to these developments to mitigate/minimize the impact on GSK businesses in EMAP. Must directly interact with senior external stakeholders. • Delivering more products of value – with an ageing population and healthcare budgets under increasing pressure, governments are increasingly looking for value and efficiency. The payor environment is becoming more sophisticated and demanding • Building trust - the activities of companies like GSK are under greater scrutiny than ever before, and it is critical that GSK builds trust with key stakeholders to underpin its license to operate. The role holder must exercise sound judgment and advise the business on issues/decisions that potentially could impact GSK’s reputation, or the standing of its products, either positively or negatively. Issues and potential issues must be managed equally well, through an appropriate balance of proactive and reactive activity. • Internal alignment – use effective matrix working to develop networks and work seamlessly with other functions and colleagues across the wider business so that GSK can communicate in a consistent and strategic way to external audiences. |
