BT intends to aggressively grow its market position via unique network and software capabilities. This is a rare opportunity to help one of the world's most successful networked services companies as we launch our Cloud and VDC offerings. Purpose of the role: Any successful individual will require detailed resolution of multi-disciplined design issues as well as strong technical leadership skills.
The successful applicant will build positive relationships with clients, customers and suppliers, demonstrating strong negotiation skills aligned with commercial focus. Providing the technical lead and vision for a team of designers and becoming a role model for the overall development of the team's skills. Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with BT and non-BT suppliers. Anticipating patterns and links, looking beyond the immediate problem to the wider implications and to generating new and innovative solutions to complex problems.
Key responsibilities: Capturing customer requirements for detailed deployment designs Producing detailed deployment designs based on agreed customer requirements for networks/security, Servers and storage Managing timelines to meet customer required by dates Assisting BT Operate during build phase if design issues are raised |

Industry accreditation in one or more relevant technology areas eg Networks (CCNP/CCIE), Servers (MCSE), Security (CISSP) etc. Capability to understand customer's requirements and translate them into a world class design and service proposition. In-depth technical understanding of the application hosting technology area to include LANs, server, Firewalls, security and storage aspects to produce first class designs. Wide knowledge of the application hosting industry future trends with peer recognition of skills in this area. Particularly Network/server virtualisation such as VRF, VMware, Citrix. Extensive experience of modern large scale industry leading datacentre design techniques and trends from major vendors like Cisco, HP,Sun, Nokia, EMC, Netapp. Proven capability for leading success in the face of major technical design challenges. Flexibility to travel to customers/team member locations in the UK and Europe at short notice. Industry accreditation in one or more relevant technology area seg Networks (CCNP/CCIE), Servers (MCSE), Security (CISSP) etc. The ability to communicate a design vision to a technical and non-technical audience. Capability to apply knowledge/skills when handling complex problems, going beyond your own area of expertise, liaising with colleagues, other departments and suppliers |
