This is a rare opportunity to help one of the world's most successful networked services companies as we launch our Cloud and VDC offerings. Purpose of the role: The individual will provide world class technical leadership and guidance within a team of infrastructure designers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for: - Working with the Lead designers within the platform to ensure that UDC/VDC datacentre designs conform to architecture. - Lead on aspects of design for BT's next generation data centres throughout UK, Europe and Americas. - Detailed designs for BT's secure remote and 3rd party access solutions including but not exclusive to the Internet incoming and outgoing platforms, SIA and iDesk. - Ensuring that the designs are both operationally supportable and secure on a world class cost basis.
Key responsibilities: - Produce world class service solutions and designs in order to achieve BT's business objectives. - Identify, understand and document our clients design requirements. - Provide leadership of teams or virtual teams or task force with members from other departments and sometimes with external suppliers representatives. - To be the escalation point for resolution of major infrastructure design issues |

Industry accreditation in relevant technology areas (eg CCIE, CCNP, CISSP, VCP, SNIA). Sufficient proven in-depth technical understanding covering: Experience with modern large scale network and security designs with the ability to communicate the design to technical and non-technical audience. IT security technologies (eg Firewalls, IPS, proxies) Wide knowledge of technology area and industry futures and trends Exploitation of network based services like eg QoS Experience of building good relationships at senior management levels whilst resolving complex technical issues. Proven capability for driving success in the face of major technical and leadership challenges. Individual will need to drive through change initiatives including the need to develop team behaviours and influence the wider organisation. To act as a source for the resolution of unique or complex problems. Flexibility to travel to occasional customers/team member locations throughout the UK and Europe. Desirable skills & experience: VMware, Xen, Solaris containers/LDOMs or HyperV Data centre IT security (eg Firewalls, IPS, proxies) Server hardware, operating systems and clusters Storage (IP and/or FC) principles |
