Cargill Tax and Customs is a global team of valued professionals providing Cargill with strategic tax and customs solutions. Cargill is currently recruiting a Tax Manager for the UK. The In-house tax manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of Cargill's tax planning, direct and indirect tax compliance, and tax dispute resolution in the country of the United Kingdom. Responsibilities of this role include: (1) tax planning for acquisitions, joint ventures and dispositions (2) post-acquisition integration/corporate restructuring (3) primary advisor for UK tax with respect to cross-border trading pattern issues such as transfer pricing, permanent establishment, and VAT and customs matters (4) management of tax return preparation process [including Black River Asset Management and CarVal management company entities and CarVal CMA entities], managing Cargill's relationship with HMRC and managing tax disputes (5) UK tax aspects of financing and repatriation of earnings (6) coordinate with regional VAT and Customs COE on UK issues (7) interpretation and advice on tax legislation and or other tax law changes (8) advising Cargill Treasury on UK tax aspects of Cargill Global Funding operations and UK thin capitalization (9) handling UK tax accounting issues and preparation or review of US GAAP and UK statutory accounts and disclosures. Principal Accountabilities 50% - Tax Reporting/Compliance - The individual is responsible for oversight and guidance with respect to Cargill's tax compliance in the UK, including advising on (and where appropriate, supervising) the preparation of national (and local) income tax returns and indirect tax returns, working with the Controller's group and business unit administrative functions. The end result is to create a process for the efficient, timely and accurate tax return preparation for Cargill's companies in UK. Also responsible for managing Cargill's UK VAT group, UK group relief, thin capitalization and other UK compliance related matters. Also responsible for quarterly preparation of Tax Contingency reporting for the UK. 30% - Tax planning - Responsible for providing pro-active tax advice to Cargill business units and functions with respect to Cargill's operations in the UK. This includes analyzing relevant tax law as it applies to Cargill's business, doing primary tax research, negotiating with local tax authorities, and reviewing and negotiating legal documents. Responsibilities include identifying tax risks and opportunities related to Cargill's new investments, acquisitions and joint ventures in the UK as well as advising business units on tax aspects of their current operations in the UK. Job scope includes preparing and communicating written and verbal tax advice and working with Business Unit managers and controllers, lead controllers, other functional groups and the Cargill Tax function to implement tax planning advice. Coordination with regional Customs COE on customs matter in the country. 20% - Tax Audits/controversy - The individual is responsible for managing Cargill's relationship with Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs ("HMRC"), and managing corporate income tax, payroll and benefits tax, indirect tax and customs audits for Cargill, working with the Controller's group, the Cargill Tax function business units and HR. The end result is to ensure favorable (and measurable) and timely resolution of tax controversies for Cargill's businesses in the UK. 10% - Training - Provide tax education and training and serve as source of tax information for business units and Functions through periodic meetings and training sessions. |

•University Degree, preferably in accounting, law, or graduate degree in tax law or accounting •Professional qualification in Accounting (CIMA/ACCA) or Lawyer qualification •Strong knowledge of UK tax accounting •Significant proven experience working in direct and indirect taxation at a multi-national law firm, public accounting firm or multi-national company •Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of UK direct and indirect tax law •Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of international tax treaties and EU and OECD tax principles •Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of current trends in assessing practice and level of inherent tax risk in the UK •Excellent written and verbal communication skills •High ethical standards •Ability to work independently in large decentralized teams Preferred •Knowledge of US GAAP accounting |
