The Credit Policy Group in Europe was established in March 2002. The core objective of CPG is to enhance and improve the quality and consistency of Fitch’s ratings and to ensure that they are as prospective as possible. CPG enacts this role as a support to all of Fitch’s product groups. We aim to bring the attention of our product groups to new trends and developments in any of the areas in which Fitch rates entities and debt securities. This can be achieved through conventional credit measures such as financial ratios or market data. External research or commentary on credit trends might also be used to do this.
The product groups are responsible for Fitch’s ratings and criteria, although CPG might be invited to advise on them. Currently there are 6 members of CPG in London and 1 in Asia. Amongst the London team, 3 experienced professionals liaise with the main product areas. This role arises in response to the internal transfer of one of these professionals to one of Fitch’s product areas. It is expected that the person recruited will mainly liaise with the European non financial corporates ratings group.
Job Description As noted, the role involves providing assistance to the European non financial corporates ratings group. The role will help the product group to identify outliers, new trends in credit quality and consistency of credit views between Fitch’s product areas. The data used in the role will be market related, macro economic, industry specific and cross industry and could be qualitative as well as quantitative. The liaison with the product group will be through formal regular product group meetings and informal discussions. There are also regular credit officer meetings within CPG and between CPG and the product group risk officers to discuss this data and credit trends.
Some of the more detailed aspects of the role include: - Use macro data and research to compare with internally developed forecasts/expectations and rating activity (transitions and distributions). - Develop and nominate areas of topical research that can be used to frame priorities or get in front of the next potential "issue“. - Oversee and Participate in Peer Review Committees. - Participate in all external and select internal appeal committees. - Model Validation - Review select projects for consistency or divergence of assumptions to understand. - Review models for sensitivity analysis and best practices across groups. - Periodic Rating Reviews (participation, data collection, distribution ) - Data based meetings to discuss trends, expectations, and areas to focus on Credit Officers, analytical group, others as appropriate (e.g. Accounting |
