As a Network Consulting Engineer, you will be responsible for providing consultative, proactive and sometimes reactive support to Cisco’s Service Provider customers. The candidate will be technically skilled and motivated to this vertical and will be involved, in varying degrees of scale, complexity and duration; the customers design; software strategy, road map and migration; performance engineering and optimization, knowledge transfer and mentoring, network auditing/sizing, deployment and migration. As well as, at times, supporting escalated operational issue resolution.
The candidate must be a dynamic, self motivated individual that is dedicated to exceeding customer expectations, be willing to contribute to team efforts, and must possess strong interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as excellent leadership and customer support skills. Candidate must be capable of working under pressure in complex and politically driven environments. The candidate must strive for highest level of customer satisfaction, be a strong team player, mission oriented, and one whom needs little direction. Strong communications skills are essential. The candidate must have a “can do” attitude, and be able to proactively “think out of the box” when necessary. The ultimate goal for the candidate is to become Cisco’s trusted advisor to their customer.
The role requires both remote and on-site working. Although flexible in nature the candidate will usually work a minimum of one day a week from our Reading office and a minimum of one day a week on customer premises, which are situated in London. The candidate must be prepared to work occasional “out of business hours” when necessary. Therefore willingness to travel is a must. Although the customer is a Service Provider the scope of the role could potentially encompass both SP and Enterprise networks.
The candidate will ideally live within easy reach of both Reading and London. |

Typically requires BS, CS, or University degree equivalent, and experience in consultancy/design role of substantial networks, within Service Provider or large-scale Enterprise environments. Certification to CCIE level, or CCNP/CCIP working towards a CCIE is highly desirable. Must have awareness and knowledge of ITIL and ISO. Must possess strong technical skills, and have worked in a consulting/design role within a Service Provider or large-scale Enterprise environment. Exposure to Data Centre technologies is also desirable Strong knowledge in MPLS/IPv4/BGP/General IP Routing Protocols/QoS. Must have strong solid knowledge in MPLS-Traffic Engineering/IPv6. Must have strong knowledge of the following platforms: 3750/6500/7200/7300/7500/7600/GSR10k/12k, and CRS. Strong knowledge and experience of internetworking in a large-scale Service Provider or Enterprise network environments. Candidates from varied technical backgrounds will be considered and the following list gives an overview of desirable technology areas of knowledge and experience: - LAN switching protocols - Cisco Data Centre technologies - Cisco CPE - Cisco Broadband technologies - NMS - Managed Services Must be proficient with Microsoft applications, Visio and other such tools |
