This is an opportunity to join an existing team of 7 lawyers supporting Oracle’s business in the UK as it expands following it game-changing acquisition of Sun Microsystems earlier this year. The successful applicant will report to the Director of Legal Services for the UK and assume primary responsibility for provision of commercial legal support to all areas of the business.
LEGAL FUNCTIONS Your primary role will be the provision of legal support to allocated business units covering all lines of business including software licensing, professional services, hardware and storage Such support will typically include contractual and commercial advice on Oracle practices and processes and negotiation of large/complex contracts with customers and partners. This role will also include interaction with other groups in Oracle involved in the commercial process and will require you to provide considered legal analysis of the risks arising from the proposal of non-standard solutions. You will also be involved in the development and localisation of model standard agreements/clauses. As well as direct transactional support, you will be expected to provide input on the resolution of business issues fir your allocated business units, and to respond on a varied number of issues ranging from competition rules to access to CCTV camera footage. Oracle has lawyers working in many countries in Europe and the rest of the World. You work will involve regular interaction with lawyers in other countries, either in connection with customer related issues or on internal Oracle projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS · You will assume responsibility for providing all aspects of commercial legal support to allocated line of business and industry sectors, including regular contract with senior managers, participating in management meetings, and assisting in setting work priorities. You will be responsible for liaison with other organisations involved in the commercial process such as the Business Practices and Contract Specialist organisations both in connection with transactions you are working on and more generally to look at ways of improving collaboration and working practices. You will be required to provide training and updates to other departments as necessary on various legal matters. You will be involved in the implementation and enforcement of Oracle’s legal policies and business practices. |
