Industry Consultant : Smart Metering

The Utilities sector in the UK and Ireland is experiencing a period of significant change driven by a series of fundamental shifts in operating model and relationship such as:
- The implementation of smart metering and smart grid, with the associated new service propositions;
- The ‘energy gap’ and the new nuclear programmes;
- Mergers and acquisitions and the new market entrant opportunities for groups such as mobile operators;
- The start of the new 5-year regulatory cycles;
- Customer channel changes and the changing customer expectations; and
- The extraction of value from the replacement of legacy systems

IBM’s Utilities sector is looking for a number of consultants and senior consultants to help drive sales and revenue growth and delivery excellence across areas such as Smart Metering and Smart Grid. Candidates will be an industry Subject Matter Expert with smart metering and/or smart grid expertise (or similar deep industry expertise such as Nuclear etc). The individuals will operate with the main account teams and Executives in supporting smart sales opportunities and should ideally have detailed knowledge of the benefits and challenges in any programme of this type.

- Displays teaming skills and ability to work on multiple challenges simultaneously
- Consults on business issues and IT to deliver lasting value to clients as part of IBM engagements with due reference to sales or delivery leadership for opportunities to improve IBM’s reputation or commercial position
- Develops and sustains strong, trusted and ongoing relationships with client middle management

The individuals will:
- Evidence talent in one or more sector-specific areas with a desire to deepen knowledge.
- Support the development of new propositions and the engagement of the SMEs in accounts.
- Assist on cross-brand teams looking at shared activities.
- Provide support in the selling of Utilities sector business including the potential to work on bid activity
- Support the wider Comms sector growth and team objectives through active contribution in initiatives
- Be a team player on a wide range of new and sell-on business
Works with process discipline and rigour in delivery (focus on delivery excellence);
- Support the delivery leadership team
- Appreciate and attends to the systems required to drive accountability and execution;
- Have strong planning, multi-tasking and organisational skills
- Be able to deliver client solutions against defined value propositions
- Be able to work in large or small multidisciplinary teams as well as having ability to work unsupported in a client environment
