Societe Generale (SG) London maintains a significant investment banking activity in the UK. This role is for a qualified accountant within the London Branch working as a supervisory member of the accounting and reporting team.
The role covers the management and accounting functions of SG’s UK subsidiary group and reports to the Head of the UK subsidiaries reporting team. The subsidiary group is primarily consolidated within a single holding company and includes up to 40 business entities. Range of activities includes leasing, private equity, structured investments and structured lending. The role covers the financial supervision of these entities: maintaining accounting records, production of statutory accounts, production of SG financial accounts, day to day management of treasury, liaising with the middle and front offices on maintenance of existing structures as well as new business initiatives. Tasks cover the full life cycle of the entity.
•Head office reporting – preparation of monthly financial statements and reports for inclusion in the SG Group accounts. •Production of quarterly reports including Basle II, structural interest rate sensitivity, maturity of balance sheet and other financial information. •Maintenance of the accounting records for a number of big ticket leasing companies. Including the preparation of cash book journals. •Production of a sub consolidation for the leasing group for inclusion in the wider UK subsidiaries consolidated P&L and Balance Sheet. •Ensuring transactions and financial instruments are booked correctly and comply with the group’s financial reporting requirements. •Work on the production of statutory accounts, liaising with external auditors and internal tax team. •Process improvement of current reporting methodologies. •Ensuring month end process of VAT and invoicing. •Maintenance of accounting records for special purpose vehicles. •Project work to update the ALFA (leasing) back office system. •Supervising 1 member of staff
Level of authority •A high degree of autonomy is required for the role as well as the ability to facilitate and communicate between different departments and location Internal & external contacts •DEVL: SG Group’s central accounting team based in Paris. •External and internal auditors. •Middle Office and Front Office staff. •Financial performance management team. •UK Tax team. •Contacts Paris GL/Quartz/RDJ on a regular basis. •Dealing with National statistics and VAT UK government authorities |

•Accounting qualification •Qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA, other) preferably with financial services/investment banking background gained in a BIG 4/accounting/auditing firm environment or •An individual with a Degree in Finance/Accounting and 5/6 years experience of working in a back office or middle office environment of an Investment Bank. •Fluent English •French an advantage •IFRS knowledge •Medium/Advanced Excel skills.
