Economic Analyst
The Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) consists of a team of around 40 economists and analysts. It contributes to the operational, policy and strategy work of the Bank and provides intellectual leadership on the economic aspects of transition in the region.
OCE works with the Banking Department in structuring, appraising and monitoring investment projects that advance the transition to a market economy. OCE also initiates and participates in Bank policy initiatives, contributes to the development of country and sector strategies, and supports the Bank’s operations by monitoring macroeconomic developments and risks. In addition, OCE undertakes economic research, and publishes the EBRD’s Transition Report. The Office of the Chief Economist is seeking analysts to work in one or several of the following areas:

• Sector analysis in one of the major sectors in which the Bank is active (industry; financial institutions, infrastracture, and energy);
• Monitoring and economic analysis of a specific region or country of operation
• Design and monitoring of Bank projects in these sectors;
• Analysis of the impact of Bank projects and operations;
• Economic research revelant to the problems of transition countries.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
The Analyst will work under the direction of Economists within their assigned group.
Responsibilities and deliverables may include:
• Compilation and maintenance of relevant datasets
• Research assistance and econometric or statistical analysis underlying EBRD research products
• Assistance in the preparation of regular publications, reports, and ad-hoc economic briefings, including drafting of specific sections and preparation of charts and tables.
• Active participation in regional or sectoral team meetings.
• Preparation of powerpoint preparations
• Organisation and management of conferences and seminars.
• Ad hoc assignments as requested.

• A Master’s degree in economics or a related field from a leading university; perhaps a Ph.D candidate (candidates with a strong, quantitatively oriented economics degree at the Bachelor’s level will be considered in exceptional cases)
• Strong analytical skills.
• Strong quantitative skills, including knowledge of spreadsheet and econometric or statistical software, such as Eviews or Stata;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Familiarity with the EBRD region of operations, particularly work or study experience in the region, and knowledge of one or more languages of the region would be an advantage.
Candidates for an area of activity that involves economic research will need to have strong skills in applied econometrics and prior experience in empirical analysis (in the form of work experience as a research assistant and/or authorship of an empirical thesis).
