This role is for a Developer for the WIRE project within Advisory IT. The WIRE project is responsible for the fundamental Equity Research database within UBS IB. This system is mature at 15+ years and has a large, mixed code base. The WIRE application suite covers all technologies including, but not limited to, Sybase 15, Java, Unix , Perl, C++, Web Technologies, Visual Basic and Office addins. The team is responsible for the WIRE and ATLAS databases and a suite of front end tools for updating and retrieving research data. WIRE is heavily used by downstream systems within Advisory IT such as ECP, RAP and AlphaKey as well as by teams Compliance, Oasis etc outside of the Department. WIRE remains the strategic data capture mechanism for Research which feeds an Oracle Data Warehouse (AlphaKey) within the Department. As AlphaKey develops, there will be an opportunity for the right applicant to cross-train in due course onto other systems within the Data Team.
¨ During this year WIRE will be consolidating the existing functionality to ensure conformity of fundamentals data into a single source and utilised throughout the Bank. There will a number of initiatives to simplify existing code as well as to extend or write new functionality in the next 12 months.
¨ The CUS (Company Update Sheet) is an Excel application that allows Research Analysts to upload their model data to the WIRE database and is one of a suite of applications that allow users to control WIRE data. These applications will be re-written to take advantage of C# and .NET technologies this year.
¨ The Desktop Transformation Program will involve the upgrade to Office 2010 and Windows 7.
¨ Application of a new security layer to all WIRE applications
¨ Migration of the application and batch servers to RHEL5 from RHEL3.
¨ Upgrade of all batch processing to use Autosys r11.
¨ There will be strong opportunities for the right candidate to evolve and develop within the team. Any new joiner will be pulled into the new product set (using Oracle 10g, PL/SQL, OLAP, etc.) and assist with the consolidation of the Data Projects. |

¨ Develop and support WIRE server side functionality such as feeds, extracts and end of day batch processes
¨ Develop and support the WIRE suite of front-end applications
¨ Assist with the WIRE to AlphaKey consolidation
¨ Assist with bi-monthly production releases of WIRE server side code when necessary
¨ Assist with front-end releases when necessary and work with central IT teams to co-ordinate testing
¨ Work with central IT teams to co-ordinate server upgrades and hardware changes
¨ Assist with monitoring system performance and trouble shooting
¨ Assist business side support teams with data queries and ad hoc code requests
¨ Assist other developers with server side issues such as Subversion merges, shell scripting and Sybase/Oracle issues |
