The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development helps build market economies and promotes democractic development in 30 countries from central Europe to central Asia. It does this through investing primarily in the private sector and providing policy advise to governments. The Office of the General Counsel is at the core of EBRD's challenging mandate, providing the internal clients of the EBRD with high quality advice on all legal and institutional matters. It handles all legal aspects of the EBRD's lending and investment transactions, all legal aspects of the EBRD's finance operations, provides legal advice for instituational, environmental, co-financing and administrative matters. It also advises governments on the reform of their legal systems.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables To work and provide legal advice on a wide range of human resources adn other corporate work, including: * personnel policies and issues; * advising on staff grievances, mediation, disciplinary procedures and appeals to the Bank's Administrative Tribunal; * contentious and non-contentious human resources matters; * privileges and immunities of the EBRD and its personnel in member countries. * Have a law degree from a leading university in his or her own home country and a post graduate degree from a leading university or professional experience in another country; * Be admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction and have academic qualifications or professional experience in both civil and common law; * Have at least five years of professional experience as a lawyer in some or all of the matters listed above; at least one year work experience in an international financial institution or other international organistion would be of advantage; * Have demonstrated interest in public international law and the workings of an international organisation; * Be particularly interested in emerging markets; * Have an excellent command of the English language, including a demonstrated skill to draft and negotiate legal documents in English; * A command of Russian, or another language of the EBRD's region, would be an advantage, but is not a requirement.
