Fitch has long been the industry leader in the financial institutions sector, providing more ratings worldwide than any other rating agency – on over 3,500 entities and their securities. The firm also provides financial strength and debt ratings for more than 2,500 insurance companies globally. Fitch’s financial institutions’ coverage includes not only banks, but also finance and leasing companies, securities firms and asset management organizations. In addition, the group supports dedicated teams for rating specialized securities such as covered bonds. Because of the firm’s recognized strength in this sector, some banks choose Fitch as their sole rating agency, or opt for Fitch and one other rating agency.
Job Description We are looking for an analyst to join our financial institutions team based in London, concentrating primarily on the rating of financial institutions in Southern Europe and Benelux. Working in a small team under the supervision of a Senior Director, training will be provided as required, but you will be expected to assume some degree of responsibility at an early stage.
If you are successful in your application, your role will require you to travel across the region and participate in review meetings with senior management at rated institutions, carry out data analysis and bank research, write credit rating reports in English and present credits to a rating committee. You will also be expected to attend rating committees on banks from other geographic areas, and contribute to internal discussions on rating issues.
It is important that you are able to work independently while also being a good team player and be able to cope with time pressure and deadlines, happy to travel (around 20% of working time) and appreciate different cultures.
Specific responsibilties include: Analyse and interpret published financial statements and maintain Fitch internal financial database. Closely follow developments at rated institutions, assessing the potential impact on the rated entity and maintaining the relationship with the rated entity. Regularly meet rated institutions to discuss strategy, performance and risk management with senior management. Prepare credit rating reports on rated institutions (target of at least 12 per year). Present credits to internal rating committee. Follow sector-wide developments and assess their potential impact on rated institutions, participating in the preparation of special reports. Participate in rating committees for other rated financial institutions. Participate in internal discussions on sector-wide rating issues. |
